Memento Mori

In the foreground, a vibrant green pear rests beside a clean, white animal skull, both set on a textured white surface and cardboard base. Behind them, a framed painting or print mirrors this arrangement almost exactly: another skull with open jaws, this time clenching a pear, echoing the real-life objects with an uncanny surrealism.

The juxtaposition of life (the fresh pear) and death (the skull), along with the repetition between the real and represented, creates a dialogue between reality and art, presence and absence, mortality and memory. The backdrop adds depth and a painterly texture, elevating the image into the realm of a contemporary vanitas.
